The Bald Cypress
BALD CYPRESS (Taxodium distichum)
Known for growing on Cypress Bay Plantation and reportedly used by Noah to construct the ark, the Bald cypress is a deciduous conifer that is adaptable to a variety of climates. Short, soft, light-green needle-like leaves appear in the spring, turning darker in summer and a copper brown in fall before dropping. Living up to 1,300 years and having no significant pest problems, the Bald cypress is a great home landscape choice. It can grow up to 150 feet in height and up to 12 feet in width. Growth rate depends on the nutrient supply, water depth, availability of light and soil characteristics. Low levels of light and excessive flooding can cause the Bald cypress to grow more slowly.
So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. – Genesis 6:14
